CAN WE PROCEED TO DO HOUSE CHORES RIGHT AFTER WE OFFER INCENSE AND PERFORM OBEISANCE, OR DO WE NEED TO EXTINGUISH THE OIL LAMP FIRST

Shuohua20180713 01:43
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller: After offering incense, a Buddhist friend will go about performing recitation while doing house chores (cooking, taking out the laundry, etc.). In such cases, do we need to extinguish the oil lamp before performing the chores?
Master Jun Hong Lu: It is best to have the oil lamp extinguished.
Caller: Alright.

Master Jun Hong Lu’s
Public Talk
Singapore
18 May 2018
HOW TO INVOKE THE ASSISTANCE OF GUAN YIN BODHISATTVA
Master Jun Hong Lu: Let me share with you, Guan Yin Bodhisattva will make her presence at 8 o’clock in the morning. No matter what issues you are facing in life, you must insist on offering incense at 8 am and pray to Guan Yin Bodhisattva with the utmost earnestness: “Guan Yin Bodhisattva, please save me! Guan Yin Bodhisattva, please save me!”. when the Bodhisattva shed tears for you, you will receive her blessings. Do you understand?

WHEN MAKING OBEISANCE TO BUDDHA, THE BODY MUST BE UPRIGHT DURING THE FIRST PROSTRATION

Master Jun Hong Lu’s
Public Talk
Brisbane, Australia
16 June 2018

WHEN MAKING OBEISANCE TO BUDDHA, THE BODY MUST BE UPRIGHT DURING THE FIRST PROSTRATION

Question: We noticed there are disciples, despite being physically fit, guiding new Buddhist friends to perform prostrations to Bodhisattvas in the following way: the

buttocks are seated on the back of the lower legs; with only the hands, upper body and head performing the regular motions of a prostration. May I know if this is the proper way?
Answer: That should be fine. However, when performing your first prostration, it is best for your body to be upright and to refrain from sitting on the back of your legs just yet. From the second prostration onward, you may sit if you feel uncomfortable or tired. Beginning your prostrations in such a relaxed manner may not be appropriate as it is disrespectful to Bodhisattvas. To reiterate, when you first start to perform the gesture, your body must be upright, and you should not assume a sitting position.

THE "SPIRITUAL CODE 7829" IS ANOTHER COMBINATION OF BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES

Shuohua20180629 08:17
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Caller: Master, there is a recent discourse shared which says, in the event of an emergency, we can apply the "Spiritual code 7829" which is made up of 7 x Great Compassion Mantra; 8 x Heart Sutra; 2 x Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance; 9 x Jvala Mahaugra Dharani (Xiao Zai Ji Xiang Shen Zhou). Can this be used in general or for the specific case only?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Either is fine. In fact, this code “7829” is very efficacious... When there's something that you can't figure out that makes you suffer, try it out, “7829”.
Caller: I see. So this is another method shared by Guan Yin Bodhisattva?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes! Just like the combination of Buddhist scriptures in Little House, “7829” is another combination. In reality, what does this mean? Besides being a combination of Buddhist scriptures mentioned earlier, when you recite these Buddhist scriptures in the face of a difficult situation, it is the same as how you would add salt, sugar and food enhancer, etc. when cooking up a dish.
For instance, when faced with a situation, it is akin to being hungry-- I should not be serving you only buns without other dishes nor solely serving you other dishes without any buns to go with it. Do you understand this analogy?
Caller: I understand.

THINGS TO NOTE FOR DISPLAY OF THE GREAT COMPASSION MANTRA IN BEDROOM

Wenda20180223 52:50
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Caller: As we know it is better to put up the Great Compassion Mantra at home. For a Buddhist practitioner who practices Dharma with a pure mind without any sexual desires, where is the best position to hang the Great Compassion Mantra in his bedroom?
Master Jun Hong Lu: If you are a non-vegetarian, do not hang it. You can only do so if you are a vegetarian.
Caller: This Buddhist practitioner is very ‘clean’ and has abstained from all sexual behaviour. He would like to hang the Great Compassion Mantra in his bedroom, so he wants to know where is the best place to locate it?
Master Jun Hong Lu: It is best not to hang it directly above your head.

WHAT SHOULD WE RELY ON TO ELIMINATE ARROGANCE

Wenda20180608 39:08
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Caller: Greed, anger, ignorance are eliminated through discipline, concentration and wisdom. In that case, what should we rely on to eliminate arrogance?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Rely on humility and prudence so as to guard against arrogance and impatience. Do not be haughty; one should not be arrogant as after all, what does Bodhisattva teach us? Bodhisattva teaches us to be modest.
Caller: Yes, indeed.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Bodhisattva also teaches us to strictly observe the precepts. If you observe the precepts, you will not be arrogant or view others with suspicion, isn’t that right?
Caller: Yes, take the precepts as the foundation.
Master Jun Hong Lu: When you have trust in sentient beings, how will you develop suspicions?
Caller: I understand now, Master Lu.

THE REASON BEHIND GAMING ADDICTION; DO NOT DO ANYTHING EXCESSIVELY

Wenda20180622 01:21:17
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller: At the beginning of this year, gaming addiction has been classified as a mental health condition by the World Health Organization. The symptoms of gaming addiction include impaired control over gaming activities; where the frequency and intensity of gaming are also taken into consideration. Master Lu, what is the reason behind such an addiction? From a Buddhist perspective, is the addiction caused by foreign spirits on one’s body or are there any other reasons?

Master Jun Hong Lu: The habits of gaming are due to one’s clinging to the pursuit of a particular matter. In the dharma realm, this is known as desire. Indulgence in debauchery shows that one is possessed by the evil nature. As such, if you develop a special liking for a lady, haven’t you been possessed by a sex demon? Hence, if you obsess over your computer as though it were your lover, don't you think you are being possessed by it?

Caller: Master Lu, by ‘demon’, are you referring to our inner demons instead of foreign spirits?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, these are instances of your inner demons. For example, a 28 year old youth recently passed away while watching a football match. He was extremely stimulated; shouting, drinking and not sleeping — this is called fantasy football or something along that line. Ultimately, the cause of his death was unidentified. Think about it, aren’t these people pitiful? This is why Bodhisattva said that moderation is key in all our undertakings, and we must refrain from being attached and not to go overboard, as anything done excessively will cause harm to the human body. Being overly fond of someone will lead to separation, and arguing will also culminate similarly. That which is long divided must unify, and that which is long unified must divide. That is how it is.

HOW TO IMMERSE THE HEART IN THE SCRIPTURE DURING RECITATION

Wenda 20151129B  47:11
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller:  Master Lu said that we have to immerse our hearts into the scripture whenever we perform recitation. Please enlighten us on how to achieve that, Master Lu.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Listen with your ears.  For example, listen to your voice when you are reciting.  However, many people will fall asleep quickly while listening to their own voice.  It is alright to fall asleep, just continue to recite when you are awake.  Listen to your voice as you recite.

Caller:  Okay, thank you Master Lu for answering my question.

VEGETARIAN FISH OIL IS MADE OF FLAXSEED OIL

Shuohua20180420 01:04
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Caller: Hello Master Lu, you’ve mentioned vegetarian fish oil has the benefit of preventing three major health issues, i.e. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar, as well as unclogging blood vessels. By vegetarian fish oil, do you mean flaxseed oil?

Master Jun Hong Lu: There is a variety of fish oils, such as deep sea and OMEGA-3. There is also a type of fish oil suitable for vegetarians. Apparently, this oil is made of flaxseed oil. This vegetarian option is also beneficial, as it protects one’s heart and can reduce the blockage of blood vessels.

HOW TO DISPOSE OF OLD YELLOW LANDSCAPE picture WHEN/upon REPLACING ALTAR?

Wenda20170303 33:27
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Caller:  A fellow practitioner wants to replace her Buddha alter. How should she dispose of the old yellow landscape picture placed at the back of the altar?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Just wrap it up and keep it for a month. You can recite seven Little Houses before taking the picture down.

Caller:  Are the Little Houses offered to karmic creditors or to my friends?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  To the house.

LIFE IS MEANINGFUL WHEN WE LIVE FOR THE INTERESTS OF OTHERS

Master Jun Hong Lu’s Public Talk
Jakarta, Indonesia
12 March 2018

As Buddhist practitioners, we must understand the doctrine of impermanence and let go.  A meaningful life is a life lived for the interests of others.  With the frequent natural and human-made disasters around us, how can we avoid and deliver others from these adverse events? It is none other than through the power of Buddhism practice as it can help us eliminate impending calamities and difficulties.

HOW DO WE APPLY BUDDHIST PRINCIPLES INTO OUR DAILY LIVES

Master Jun Hong Lu’s Discourse
(Question 132)
November 1, 2016

Question: How do we put to use what we have learned - to apply Buddhist principles into our daily lives and to live a life as Buddhists?

Answer: Whatever we encounter in our lives, we must always think about how we should react from the perspective of Buddhism. Do not be hasty in making decisions to avoid committing any mistakes. Think before you act. Think and act only if justifiable - your actions should correspond with your words. How do we integrate Buddhist cultivation into everyday life?

Number 1:  Be Calm
Number 2:  Contemplate
Number 3:  Watch your speech

Calmness yields wisdom and contemplation makes every word spoken wise.

MASTER LU’S DISCOURSE: THREE CONDITIONS TO FULFILL IN ORDER TO ASCEND TO BODHISATTVA REALM

Wenda20170312A  06:53
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Please remember, there are three conditions to fulfill in order to ascend to Bodhisattva Realm:
1)     Foundation;
2)     Dharma Cultivation;
3)     Great Vows.

In fact, this information is considered a mystery of heaven and I have just revealed it today.  All the conditions listed are indispensable.  Firstly, great vows: Many Buddhist cultivators lack motivation and hardly progress after practicing for some time.  Such cultivators will not be able to ascend to higher realm.

Secondly, your current state of cultivation:  One must cultivate in a lawful manner without slackening or retrograding in their cultivation, and not turning a blind eye to people who are in mortal danger. There was a saying in the past, “I just have to discipline myself well…”, does this mean cultivate earnestly?  Let me tell you, refusal to lift your fingers to save someone in mortal danger is a sin.  Ignoring the sufferings of people before your eyes and not offering a helping hand is inhumane, and because you do not have a compassionate heart, , you will not be able to attain the state of Bodhisattva.

Lastly, foundation:  If you do not have a sound foundation, you will never be able to ascend to the upper realms.

CHERISH EVERY MOMENT OF OUR LIVES

Excerpt from Master Jun Hong Lu's Public Talk
Auckland, New Zealand
6 November 2016

CHERISH EVERY MOMENT OF OUR LIVES

Life is like a journey on a one-way train. We must live well at every moment of our lives.  Every person who boards and alights from the train has predestined affinity with us. Thus we should treasure them.  We must learn to tap on our kind innate nature, to be worthy of our conscience.  To cherish every affinity that accompanies us through every part of our lives.  Persevere to overcome vexations so that we can be persistent in our cultivation to acquire Buddha nature that is free from sufferings.

HOW DOES ONE’S MINDSET DETERMINE THEIR DESTINY?

Q&A Session with Buddhist Friends, Taipei, Taiwan
October 4, 2016

Q12: HOW DOES ONE’S MINDSET DETERMINE THEIR DESTINY?

Q: We always say that one’s mindset determines their destiny. How do we explain this from a Buddhist perspective? Please enlighten us, Master Lu.

A: A person’s mindset is very important. A negative mindset that holds jealousy, hatred, unforgiveness, and self-righteousness will never be likable and no one will ever be nice to them. Such a person will not have a smooth career and will be in frequent fights with their partner. How could such a person ever be successful in life?

LOTUS LAMPS WITH BENT RODS ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR ALTARS

Shuohua20161118  00:42
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller: Hello Master Lu. I heard from the radio program a couple of days ago about red lotus lamps. For those who have already placed them on their altars, what should they do?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Red lotus lamps are perfectly fine as long as the rods are not bent. Do you have such lamps on your altar?

Caller:  No, they are straight.

Master Jun Hong Lu: It doesn’t matter then.

Wenda20171119B 29:16

DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS OF SOMEONE WHO’S ASLEEP

Master Jun Hong Lu's Discourse (Question 220)
12 April 2018

Question:  If you take a photo of someone sleeping, will it cause their soul and spirit to separate?

Answer: Indeed, a person’s soul and spirit can become divided if you take a photo of them while asleep.  Also, young children should not be exposed to excessive camera flashes. It’s not advisable to take photos of people sleeping, as it can appear as though you’ve taken a photo of a dead body.  Don’t people look as if they’re dead when sleeping?  Taking photos of this nature can lead to misfortune for all involved.

ARE WE ABLE TO AVOID CHILDREN WHO ARE HERE TO CLAIM OR REPAY DEBTS, AS DESTINED BY KARMA?

Wenda20150906A 11:30 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: You mentioned before that most daughters were born to repay karmic debts, whilst most sons were born to claim karmic debts. Is it possible for one to avoid such karmic consequences by not having children, though he is destined to have four children in this lifetime?

Master Jun Hong Lu: This cannot be avoided. Even if you decide not to have children, the karmic creditors are able to claim from you in other ways, like reincarnating as your sibling’s child. We had witnessed such cases in the past. What happened to those who have difficulty conceiving but are pre-destined to repay karmic debts in this life? Well, they may acknowledge their niece or nephew as their godchild and what follows is that the child will start to agitate them or squander their money away. Isn’t this an act of repaying debts?

Caller: I see. So there are things in life that we are pre-destined to put through.

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s right. You simply cannot escape from it.

Caller: Noted, Master Lu.

Master Jun Hong Lu: However, you will be able to resolve it provided you perform your recitation.

Caller: Exactly. The mantras and sutras are simply splendid. Thank you for introducing such miraculous Dharma to us, Master Lu.

Master Jun Hong Lu: I am exhilarated that all of you have benefited from it.

Caller: Indeed, Master Lu. I am at a loss for words now.

LATEST DISCOURSE: WHEN YOU ARE ON THE VERGE OF LOSING YOUR TEMPER, RECITE 10 TIMES 「MAY GUAN YIN BODHISATTVA HAVE COMPASSION ON ME, AND HELP ME TRANSFORM THE GREED, HATRED AND DELUSION WITHIN ME」

 Wenda20161211A 03:59
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller: Master Lu, you advised us before that when we are enraged and are on the verge of losing our temper, we may recite in silence 「May Guan Yin Bodhisattva help me to transform the greed, hatred and delusion within me」 10 times. Is that right?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, this is the latest from yesterday's discourse. Let me tell you, you must say, 「May Guan Yin Bodhisattva have compassion on me and help me transform the greed, hatred and ignorance within me.」 How does this work? It is because every anger stems from the three poisons, being Greed, Anger and Delusion.

Caller: In that case should we start first, by reciting in silence 「May Guan Yin Bodhisattva have compassion on me and help me to transform the greed, hatred and delusion within me」 or should we recite the Mantra To Untie Karmic Knots, or at times like this, should we first take a seat or should we pray to Bodhisattva directly?

Master Jun Hong Lu: When you are on the verge of flying into a rage, firstly you should pray to Bodhisattva, followed by performing recitation. That will be perfect! After doing so, see for yourself, whether you would still get angry.

Caller: Indeed, relating to Bodhisattva is also considered an ingenious approach.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Try it out and you will know what I mean. In fact, from the psychological point of view, when a person is fuming in anger, try to calm down and your anger will slowly subside.
