REASON WHY WE FAIL TO PRACTICE WHAT WE PREACH

Wenda20150522 34:52 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: At times, we can be very eloquent in preaching to others. However, we can’t always live up to the message we preach when we are being tested. Why is this so?

Master Jun Hong Lu: As human beings, we are prone to see others’ faults but fail to see our own. It is only when we are experiencing hardship that we realise the importance of others. However, we often forget how much others have to sacrifice when everything goes so smoothly for us. Therefore, we have to constantly remind ourselves of the trials and tribulations we used endure, and spend some time thinking about what we have been through, so that we won’t be greedy, angry and ignorant.

HOW TO DO SELF-REFLECTION?

Shuohua20140502 17:53  [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: How do we share with fellow practitioners the importance of doing self-reflection and self-check regularly in their daily life? This happened to be something I wish to learn too, to avoid inflation of ego and going astray.

Master Jun Hong Lu: How do we do self-reflection? It is very simple.  Let me ask you, how do we maintain our personal hygiene? You wash your face and brush your teeth every morning, don’t you? In the same way, we should do regular self-reflection.

Every day before you offer incense and perform recitation of Buddhist scriptures, do a personal self-reflection:
- Did I do anything wrong today?
-Have I been overcome by greed today?
-Have I been ignorant today?
-Did I have any grievances today?
-Did I hurt anyone today?
-Have I been able to practice endurance of humiliation today…think about all these.
-Have I emulated Bodhisattva today?

This is what self-reflection is all about.  Do it twice a day, it is the same principle as saying a prayer or repenting in many Western religion

Performing Recitation During Postnatal Care

Q144: Hi Master Lu, can we perform recitations during postnatal care? What should we be aware of for both the mother and the child? Can we perform recitations while breastfeeding?

A144:
It is a Chinese tradition for a woman to have postnatal care which lasts approximately one month. Giving birth is considered to be one of the major Karmic Passes for a woman, therefore it is best to take time to rest and recover after giving birth.During postnatal care, the mother can perform recitations, but it is best to recite without making any sounds.
This is because her body may not have made a complete separation from foreign spirits. During labour, it is possible that many foreign spirits would like to be reborn into the human realm. Therefore, even after the mother has given birth, many other foreign spirits may still be staying around to wait in line. If the mother performs an excessive amount of recitations, then it is possible that other minor foreign spirits would come and collect the merits from her recitations. As a result, the mother may suffer from headaches, discomfort throughout the body, or bleeding after labour.

If the mother would like to perform Daily Recitation or recite Little Houses, it would be best to perform the recitations during day time. After the one month period of postnatal care has passed, conditions would gradually improve and she can perform recitations during night time as well.

According to Chinese tradition, the “Full Moon” ceremony is held one month after a baby is born, and parents would give out hard boiled eggs to visitors attending the ceremony. These eggs have the eggshells dyed in red colour. This also has special meanings. For infants less than one month old, their souls and spirits are usually not yet complete, and many surrounding foreign spirits may enter and exit from the infants’ bodies. In addition, when a newborn has incomplete souls and spirits, if a visitor has an aggressive facial expression or a visitor has foreign spirits occupying their body, the infant’s souls and spirits would be scared away. As a result, the infant would cry and become unsettled. This is the reason why it is not recommended to visit a newborn during the first month. The mother can perform recitations during breastfeeding. Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and Dharma Protectors would understand that she is not properly dressed during this time. While breastfeeding, it is best to recite the Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching) as much as possible. This would be beneficial for the child.

KARMIC CREDITOR WILL NOT BE OCCUPYING ONE’S BODY WHEN THERE IS HALO ABOVE THE HEAD

Wenda20160122 01:12:44 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: Master, if there are halos on our heads, will our karmic creditors be able to occupy our bodies?

Master Jun Hong Lu: When there are halos above our heads, karmic creditors will not be able to gain access to the body. Have you read the story “Journey to the West”? When Sun Wukong, the Monkey King in the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West, drew a circle around Venerable Xuanzang to protect him, the circle glowed; could the demons enter the circle? (Oh, if there are halos above the head, the halo wouldn’t go away even when the person passes away?) Yes, the halo is perpetually on the body. (What if the person is reincarnated, will the halo stay with him?)

When a person is reincarnated, the strength of the halo will determine how good a family the baby will be born into. Then the halo will slowly disappear. However, if one does not forget its root and begins to practise Buddhism upon rebirth, the halo will reappear very quickly. (Does it mean that if there is halo on our body, we will have affinity with Buddhism when we are reborn?). Yes, indeed. (Oh, do I have halo above my head presently?) You have halo above your head presently and you will even get halo around your face if you scrub it a little, ha ha. (My face is very dark, it won’t turn any brighter even if I scrub it).

TELLING WHITE LIES

Master Jun Hong Lu’s Discourse (Batch 65)

Question 142: I have a question about not telling lies. Suppose one’s spouse strongly opposes the idea of practicing Buddhism. When that person performs life liberation or other meritorious deeds on her own, if asked by her spouse, she may find some excuses to disguise the truth.  Is this considered as lying?

Answer: A lie is a lie.  Although this type of lie is way better than those that cause harm to others, there is still a need to repent for it. However, the negative karma can be eliminated easily in this case. In other words, given that her objective and intention are good, though it is still considered as lying, it will be treated with leniency. Additionally, it will not develop into any karmic debts.

Question: Another example is on being a vegetarian. As we are concerned that others may badmouth Buddhism, we might claim that we have bad digestive system so that we would like to avoid consuming non-vegetarian food.

Answer: In this case, as long as you make it known to Bodhisattva, it will suffice and it will not be regarded as a big lie.

CONSUME MORE KELP

Wenda20160805  [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Master Jun Hong Lu:
"Do bear in mind that you should consume more kelp because it contains iodine.  Kelp, consumed in large amount, helps prevent hyperthyroidism. Any abnormality in the thyroid gland will result in the instability of many cells in the body, which in turn may cause cancer, it is as simple as that. That's the reason why I love to eat kelp salad. Every once in a while, I will have it tossed with some vinegar, sugar etc. You may also stir fry or make soup with it. It is delicious either way.”

Suffer From Stuttering

Q145: Hi Master Lu, I suffer from stuttering, but I was not born with it. When I was little, I was repeating after other people when they stuttered, and then I started to stutter. Would this be related to karmic obstacles due to negative karmas or foreign spirits, as I had acquired this after birth?

A145:
Stuttering is an illness resulting from karmic obstacles due to negative karmas. Regardless of whether you were born with it or you acquired it from repeating after other people when they stuttered, it is considered to be your karmic obstacle if you suffer from stuttering.

It is possible that in your previous lives, you have generated major negative verbal karmas and made too many inappropriate comments. As a result, you would not be able to speak fluently in your present life.It is also possible that in your previous lives, you have consumed an excessive amount of live creatures, or even made comments about the taste and texture, etc. while you ate them.

Since this is an illness due to karmic obstacles, it is recommended that you perform recitations and cultivate your mind, as well as repent and repay your karmic debts.

For your Daily Recitation, you can recite
the Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou) 7 times,
Heart Sutra(Hsin Ching) at least 21 times, and
Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) 3 to 7 times.

Stuttering is an illness relating to wisdom and the mind; therefore it is recommended that you recite the Heart Sutra as much as possible. You can say the following prayer, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <full name>, grant me wisdom and help me to recover from stuttering.“
You can recite 49 Little Houses as the first batch, and then 7 Little Houses for every subsequent batch until you have fully recovered. In addition, it is strongly recommended that you make Great Vows and perform Life Liberation.

SOFT-HEARTEDNESS STEMS FROM AN UNSETTLED HEART – RECITE MORE HEART SUTRA

Wenda20120302 59:54  [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: At times, I find myself to be rather soft-hearted.  May I know what sutras/mantras should I recite?

Master Jun Hong Lu: In fact, it doesn't matter whether you are soft or cold-hearted.  The crux of the problem lies in your inability to discern good from bad.  Soft-heartedness is only a manifestation - a person’s behavioural language. However, fundamentally, it is the heart that is unsettled.  Once your heart is settled, you will no longer be soft-hearted. You should recite more Heart Sutra.

LITTLE HOUSES IS MORE POWERFUL THAN PERFORMING LIFE LIBERATION

Zongshu20160209 44:54 [Excerpt of Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program]

LITTLE HOUSES IS MORE POWERFUL THAN PERFORMING LIFE LIBERATION
All of you must remember this.

The inherent power of Little Houses is immense. Besides repayment of karmic debts and untie karmic knots, it can also ward off calamities and enable us to take refuge from misfortunes.

What about performing life liberation? It is in fact an act to pray for blessings.
Unless the act is treated as a meritorious deed, if not, you are indeed praying for blessings.

What are the benefits of performing life liberation then?
It will help your kids to perform well at school; it can help those who suffer from illnesses to recover; it can also resolves many difficulties you encounter, regardless of at home or at work place.

Any adverse situations can be turned around when you perform life liberation. And the merits yield from the act will enable you to reap many benefits in this lifetime. Do you understand?

However, performing life liberation is unable to help you ward off, say calamity or accident or major mishap that you have to put through as pre-destined by karma. It is difficult to depend on the act to resolve such misfortunes. Do you understand?

IN THE EVENT THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO COMPLETE OUR DAILY RECITATION, WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

IN THE EVENT THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO COMPLETE OUR DAILY RECITATION, WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

Question: Our daily recitation can be rather substantial. Is it allowable for us to recite part of a certain type of scriptures a day before and we complete the remaining respective scripture the next morning? Is there a difference if a person completes his recitation in two days as compared to completing it in a single day?

Answer: In fact, this is a common problem. In the past, if a person is unable to complete his dialy recitation, feels unwell or slow in his recitation, then he will complete his remaining recitaiton during the morning session on the following day.

Number 1: No matter which type of recitation you are doing, it must be done wholeheartedly. If you are unable to complete it today, then complete it tomorrow. It is the same. There is no great difference. However, if you do have the energy to perform your recitation, I still hope that you will complete the recitation within the day, as this is the best. If you are unable to complete your seven types of homework, you may recite a few times of Great Compassion Mantra and Heart Sutra.

For example, your daily recitation consists of seven kinds of sutras/mantras:
twenty-one times of Great Compassion Mantra and Heart Sutra, you may recite one time of Great Compassion Mantra and Heart Sutra respectively.

As long as you recite, even for as minimum as one time, there will be a natural continuation. Please do not, for example, recite all of the Great Compassion today and all of the Heart Sutra the next day. This is not the way to do it. Every sutra/mantra must be recited, even if it is for a minimal amount. This is to ensure that there will be a continuation the next day for these seven types of sutras/mantras in your recitation.

(Question 17)

Severely Nearsighted

Q148: Hi Master Lu, I am severely nearsighted. Is this a disorder resulting from karmic obstacles due to negative karmas? In addition to performing my Daily Recitation, what else can I do?

A148:

In general, illnesses can have a physical cause or a spiritual cause. The latter usually results from karmic obstacles due to negative karmas. If you have not over-stressed your eyes, then it is possible that your poor eyesight may be related to karmic obstacles.

You can recite the Great Compassionate Mantra (Ta Pei Chou) 21 times per day, and say the following prayer, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <full name>, help me to cure my eye disorder.”

You can recite the Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching) 21 times per day, as the recitation of this sutra can help you to gain wisdom and good eyesight. You can say the following prayer, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <full name>, help me to cure my eye disorder.”

You can recite the Cintamani Cakravartin Dharani (Ju Yi Pao Lun Wang To Lo Ni) 49 times per day, as the recitation of this mantra is beneficial for the cardiovascular system. You can say the following prayer, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <full name>, help me to cure my eye disorder.”

You can recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) approximately 3 times per day. You can say the following prayer, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <full name>, help me to repent and eliminate karmic obstacles due to negative karmas that have caused my eye disorder.”

In addition, you can recite 3 Little Houses per week and address them to the “Karmic Creditor of <your full name>”.

You can use the Great Compassionate Water to wipe your eyelids. Please be careful and avoid getting the water into your eyes.

You can also make oil offerings. The offering of oil can help us to gain wisdom and good eyesight.

DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH OTHERS’ EMOTIONAL MATTERS AS IT WILL INFRINGE ON THEIR KARMA

Wenda20160617 01:01:35 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH OTHERS’ EMOTIONAL MATTERS AS IT WILL INFRINGE ON THEIR KARMA

Caller: In one of your discourses, you mentioned that we must not advise couples to divorce no matter how bad their relationships may be. However, in our daily life or during the process of helping others, we do encounter cases of single females who are involved in improper relationships, like being a third party. Under such circumstances, how should we advise them?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Do not get involved directly or you will activate that person’s karma. Simply advise that she practise Buddhism and cultivate spiritual growth. There are some matters you should not be involved at all. Your involvement will infringe on the other party’s karma and you will have to bear the karmic consequences.

Caller: If the other party is not a Buddhist practitioner but is our friend or someone we wish to help her to practise Buddhism, under such a situation, is it still best not to get involved?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Of course not. Don’t get involved. This should be the way.

Performing Recitation for People in a Coma

Q147: Master Lu, I heard that for people who are in a coma, their souls and spirits are no longer present. For situations like this, is there still a possibility for them to recover if we perform recitations for them?

A147:
For people who are in a coma, their souls and spirits are indeed no longer present. You cannot just perform the Recalling of Souls and Spirits. You need to seek help from Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to have the souls and spirits returned to the body, and you also need to have great spiritual power from making Grand Vows.

It is recommended that you make Grand Vows, including making a vow that you will recite a certain number of Little Houses within a certain period of time. For example, you can state that you will recite 892 Little Houses, and continue to perform recitations until the patient has fully recovered.

For the Daily Recitation, it is recommended that you include the following:
the Great Compassion Mantra(Ta Pei Chou) 49 times,
Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching) 49 times,
Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) 7 times,
Cundi Dharani (Chun Ti Shen Chou) 49 times,
Guna Ratna Sila Dharani (Kung Te Pao Shan Shen Chou) 49 times, and
Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots (Chieh Chieh Chou) 49 times.

You also need to perform Life Liberation in large quantities.

There are already many cases where people have woken up from a vegetative state through their family members cultivating and performing recitations under the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door.

THE FEWER NEGATIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS YOU HAVE, THE BETTER YOUR DESTINY WILL BE

Words of Wisdom by Master Lu, Sydney, Australia, 17 January 2016

The fewer negative personality traits a person has, the better his destiny will be. The more negative personality traits a person has, the worse his destiny will be. Those who wish to change their destiny must first rectify their personality traits as those are the roots of all sufferings. A wise person is one who tries to reveal his/her own problems, rather than those of others.

TO PRACTISE BUDDHISM IS TO HAVE UNWAVERING CONFIDENCE

Zongshu20160721 27:08 [Excerpt of Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Master Jun Hong Lu:
Confidence is a pre-requisite for a person who wants to be successful. A confident person will definitely be successful. A Buddhist practitioner needs to understand that everything evolves around constancy. He needs to believe, persist and be enduring in his cultivation. By doing so, he can be assured of attaining his goal.

Why there are so many people who fail in their lifetime? They do not have the opportunity to be successful as they do not possess the attributes of perseverance and patience. Thus, I hope all our fellow practitioners would have unwavering confidence and faith in Guan Yin Bodhisattva.

THE YOUNGER GENERATION WHO HAVE THEIR ELDERS DO THEIR LAUNDRY WILL MEET WITH OBSTACLES IN THEIR CAREER

Master Jun Hong Lu’s Discourse on Question 105

Question: Will a mother and father-in-law who cook for their son and daughter-in-law gain any merits? If so, will there be any depletion in the good fortune of the son and daughter-in-law?
When too much food is prepared and it can’t be finished, is it right to say that the person who throws it away will have their good fortune reduced and it has nothing to do with the person who cooks it. As such, the one who does the cooking will gain merits? and their good fortune will not be depleted?

Answer: In the event that too much food was prepared that it resulted in wastage, there will depletion of good fortune for both parties. For the one who cooked, they are responsible, as they have failed to make a good estimation of the right amount to prepare. As for the person who threw away the food, his good fortune will be reduced even more.

Elders who prepare food for their children will not gain any merits. On the other hand, younger generations who always expect their elders to "serve" them will have their good fortune depleted. There are some younger people who let their elderlies do their laundry, and many of them face obstacles at their workplace. Another sign of a lack of good fortune is when couples quarrel.

As such, should you wish to have ample food and clothing, it is best to handle all these chores yourself. In the past, in the temples, a person who did not plough the field

VEGETARIAN FOOD CAN BE VERY HEALTHY AND NUTRITIOUS

Q149: Hi Master Lu! I am now almost a full vegetarian, but I am concerned that I am not getting enough nutrition. What can I do?

A149:

Vegetarian food can be very healthy and nutritious.
It is best if we could ensure that we have a balanced diet, as we need to take care of our body. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas also would like us to have a healthy body so that we can better cultivate in this world.

Vegetarians can consume eggs. Eggs are nutritious and the consumption of eggs is accepted by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. This is because most eggs are not fertilised and cannot hatch. However, please avoid consuming quail eggs as they are already fertilised.

Vegetarians can consume milk and other dairy products for the intake of calcium and other important nutrients.
It is recommended that you consume more soy products, as they are high in protein. Soy products include soybeans, bean curd, tofu sheets, and soy milk, etc.

You can also choose other soy products such as soy ham, soy sausage, soy meat, and soy duck, etc. These soy products contain lecithin and are high in protein. They are also very tasty.

Vegetarians can be creative and have a wide variety. You can steam, boil, or stir-fry your dishes. If the taste is too plain and you have the same dishes over a long period of time, you may lack certain important dietary elements.

It is also recommended that you consume more fruits and vegetables, and have a balanced diet rich in different kinds of essential vitamins.

Mushrooms and fungus are also very nutritious and tasty.

In addition, you can consume multi-grain and nuts including peanuts, walnut, and chestnuts. These are all very nutritious.

You can also take health supplements including lecithin and calcium. Lecithin is particularly beneficial for the brain. Every day we cycle through a large number of brain cells, and the regeneration of new cells is relatively slow. Taking lecithin would help with the regeneration of your brain cells and enhance your memory.

If the recitations for the Little Houses are not completely finished and the red dots are not correctly filled in, will any problems arise if one burns those Little Houses?

Q013: If the recitations for the Little Houses are not completely finished and the red dots are not correctly filled in, will any problems arise if one burns those Little Houses?

A013: Yes, there will be problems and therefore one is required to recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Da Chan Hui Wen) at least seven times to repent. This situation is similar to a check being returned on the grounds of incorrect information.

IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR ABORTED OR MISCARRIED CHILDREN TO REINCARNATE ON THEIR OWN

Master Lu's call-in program-- It is extremely difficult for aborted or miscarried children to reincarnate on their own. Help the aborted children to go to a transcendent place.

Female Caller: Master Lu, I had an abortion more than twenty years ago, so do I still need to read Little House (do transcendent work) for them? How about if they already reincarnated?

Master Lu: It is extremely difficult for aborted or miscarried children to reincarnate on their own. They generally stay on the mother's body which can cause a backache, breast cancer, or uterus caner. They make other children of the mother (their living siblings) weak and sick so that the parents have to worry and spend a lot of money on medical bills. They can also make their living sibling(s) throw tantrums for no reason or act rebellious to their parents. This situation will last until the parents and sibling(s) pay off the karmic debt or the aborted children are helped to go to a transcendent place.

Metaphysics Q&A: Performing Recitations in Sleep

Q155:
Master Lu, I often feel that I am performing recitations in my sleep. Sometimes I even recite the Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching). What does this mean? Do I get up and continue my recitation, or should I go back to sleep?

A155:
This could indicate that you have been practising very well lately, and that you are even practising Buddhism and performing recitations in your subconsciousness. This is a good sign.
In the case where you only recite a particular type of sutra in your sleep, then perhaps you need to recite it more, or you need to check if you are reciting it correctly.
If you are reciting the Heart Sutra or the Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra (Wang Sheng Chou) in your sleep in the middle of the night, then it could be your Karmic Creditor requesting for Little Houses.
At night, you can go back to sleep after you wake up from performing recitations in your sleep.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEMONS AND NEGATIVE KARMIC DEBTS; HOW TO RESOLVE DEMONIC OBSTACLES?

Wenda20160327A 04:14 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller:  Master, what is the difference between demons and negative karmic debt?

Master Jun Hong Lu:
A demonic obstacle is actually means the demon of our minds. I have said before that a true demon has a form….it comes from the spiritual world.  However, we generally refer to a “demon” as meaning the demon of our minds.  For example, the demon of your mind will surface when you cannot think clearly.

So, what is negative karmaWhen you are not able to think clearly and eventually commit an improper act, this will form negative karma.  (Oh, Master has said before to recite the Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance and Little House to resolve negative karmic debts, and recite Jie Jie Zhou plus Xiao Zai Ji Xiang Shen Zhou to resolve demonic obstacles).  Recite the Heart Sutra.  (Can we use the Little House and pray to Bodhisattva for getting rid of the demon of our minds?)  Yes, you can.   (How should we pray Bodhisattva?)  Tell Bodhisattva, “Please eliminate the demon of my mind”.

Metaphysics Q&A 027 – Vegetarianism and the five spices

Caller: Hi Master Lu, what should we be aware of as Buddhist vegetarians? Can we drink milk? Can we take fish oil as supplements?

Master Lu:
There are five “non-vegetarian foods” within the vegetarian diet known as the five pungent spices, including shallot, onion, ginger, garlic and chives. You should not consume them if you are practising Buddhist vegetarianism.

Ginger, to a certain extent, can be consumed in small amounts. The amount of ginger that you put on a dish should be less than the main ingredients. They should be used for garnishing purposes only.

-The five pungent spices can be considered as stimulants and they can affect our brain cells to trigger desires.

-In addition, the five pungent spices can cause bad breath. It is best to avoid consuming them before you perform recitations, as these pungent spices would reduce the virtues of performing recitations to almost zero. They prevent you from reaching Buddhahood.

-Consumption of the five pungent spices is also one of the reasons why some individuals do not experience positive results from performing recitations.

-If you have made a Great Vow to be vegetarian on certain days, then on these days you should not even consume any traces of onion, garlic or any of the pungent spices.

-If you are a full vegetarian, you should not consume fish oil.

-There are three “non-vegetarian foods” that can be consumed by vegetarians, including milk, cheese and eggs.

*DREAM INTEPRETATION IS IMPORTANT; PAY ATTENTION TO DREAMS THAT FORETELL THE FUTURE*

Wenda20170806A 56:18
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller:  A Buddhist friend dreamed of someone telling him, “stricken with blood disease, prepare to meet your doom”.  He knew that misfortune is imminent and he would like to enquire, how many Little Houses is required for situations like this?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  108 pieces.

Caller:  That means as a rule of thumb, if we dream of ourselves dying or stricken with terminal illnesses, we should first recite 108 pieces of Little Houses.  Is that right?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  That’s right.  Sometimes this happens because when the little spirits learnt that you are bound to die, they may foretell and make such revelation to you due to their resentment towards you.

Caller:  I see.  This can be a good sign, isn't it?  Once we are aware, we can then make vows on the number of Little House and coupled with the application of the Three Golden Practices (perform recitation, make vows, perform life liberation), it will surely help.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  That’s right.  That is why messages are very important and it makes a great deal of difference.

Caller:  That’s true.  As such, dream interpretation is rather important too.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  It is extremely important. In the olden days, we have Duke of Zhou to interpret dreams, don’t we?

Caller:  That’s right.  Thank you Master, for answering my question.

HOW TO CULTIVATE MAGNANIMITY

Wenda20160729 05:11 [Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program]

HOW TO CULTIVATE MAGNANIMITY

MAGNANIMITY= generous in forgiving an insult or injury; free from petty resentfulness or vindictiveness

Caller: Master Lu, how do we cultivate magnanimity of minds? I understand that by fostering greater sympathy and compassion, we can cultivate magnanimity. Are there other ways to achieve this?

Master Jun Hong Lu: To cultivate magnanimity, one should learn to endure humiliation, and gain great control of his emotions. These are all very important.

FOUR THINGS WE SHOULD NOT WASTE OUR LIVES ON

FOUR THINGS WE SHOULD NOT WASTE OUR LIVES ON

We know that we should not waste our lives away and here are four things in particular that we should not dwell on:

Number 1: Our worries.
Worries are an absolute waste of our lives. Too worry is to make things difficult for ourselves. Why get anxious over problems that we are unable to resolve? As a result, you get tensed up and fatigued physically and mentally. Consequently, you will become ill.

Number 2: Do not waste your time complaining.
Please remember, all unnecessary complaints will only keep you away from happiness. Complaints are downright useless, and serve no purpose in extricating you from predicament of life.

Number 3: Do not waste time blaming others.
When a problem arises, to blame others will only bring about bitterness and unhappiness thereafter. To blame the circumstances when things are not in your favour is a negative and passive attitude of life. From the Buddhist perspective, this is known as negative energy; and a mentality lacking self-confidence and the ability to undertake responsibilities.

Number 4: Do not compare with others, as it is an utter waste of time.
The more you compare, the unhappier you will be. Being joyful and happy are personal feelings. They are not derived from our comparison with others.

What Is Virtue?

Someone once asked me, “What is Virtue?”  Let me tell you that virtue is giving others hope, in other words, imparting wisdom to others.  Virtue is not an external pursuit.  It originates intrinsically from our compassionate nature, which develops into selfless love for all sentient beings, with the aim of helping people in this world.

Buddhist words of wisdom (fo yan fo yu)

The first things we should learn as a Buddhist practitioner are: to never feel as if we are being unfairly treated or wronged,
never feel sad, and never get frustrated or worried.

This is because everything in life is impermanent, it ebbs and flows in the blink of an eye.

When we see the truth of life, we become enlightened.
When we are free from afflictions, our wisdom shines.

Little House / Xiao Fang Zi (小房子)

The Little House ("Xiao Fang Zi") is one of the grand Dharma Gems given to us by the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva. In the Age of Dharma Decline, with the recitation of Little Houses, we are able to eliminate our karmic obstacles due to negative karma, and transfer merits to foreign spirits and help them to proceed to a better place.

In the spiritual world, Little Houses are considered to be a large currency. Little Houses can be used for repaying karmic debts in the spiritual world from previous lives. When transferring merits to the deceased, Little Houses provide the energy for the deceased to proceed to a better place. Therefore, recitation of Little Houses is the unsurpassed Dharma Gem with the greatest effect. Little Houses can be used to transfer merits to the deceased and foreign spirits to help them to proceed to a better place, and allow us to save ourselves as well as others.

DO NOT HARP ON PAST MISTAKES WHICH YOU HAVE REPENTED UPON TO PREVENT IGNITING YOUR KARMIC OBSTACLES

Wenda20151009 01:28:26 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: I have an inquiry regarding my Medicare card. Earlier, someone obtained medication using my Medicare card. Although this happened before I joined the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, I can’t help blaming myself for the mistake. The person subsequently ran up a bill of over five thousand dollars, of which two thousand dollars are under my account. I told myself that I was willing to forgo the money as I knew it was wrong to abuse the privilege. I regretted my actions and had repented and changed. In fact, I gave him the entire five thousand dollars.

Master Jun Hong Lu: It’s good that you have changed. After you change, do not harp on the matter further. Understand?

Caller: Yes.

Master Jun Hong Lu: If you continue to harp on it, you will ignite your karmic obstacles. There are many ignorant people who keep bringing up the mistakes they made in the past and have ignited their karmic obstacles as a result. You can only briefly recollect it while you recite the Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance. Other than that, leave the matter behind and stop thinking about it. Understand?

Caller: Yes. I have gained knowledge.

PRECEPTS AND BLESSINGS

【一个人的福报和他的持戒有关系吗?】
(中英版,Chinese & English versions)

PRECEPTS AND BLESSINGS
Q: Is there a correlation between a person’s blessings and how well he observes the precepts?
A: There is definitely a correlation between a person’s blessings and how well he observes the precepts. The better a person observes the precepts, the more blessings he will receive. Don’t you think a person will have blessings if he observes precepts such as refraining from gossiping, flattery, harming others, stealing, and drinking alcohol? Will he not be greatly blessed if he can refrain from being greedy, angry and ignorant? On the other hand, if a person is greedy and has endless desires, will he have blessings? Surely not. The sight of him simply annoys people

“SMILING” CAN HELP TO FEND OFF THE NEGATIVE ENERGY FROM OTHERS; PERFORMING RECITATION CAN CHANGE OUR MAGNETIC FIELD FOR THE BETTER

Sourced from @orientalradiosg

【笑能挡住别人吸气,念经能净化不好的磁场】
(中英版,Chinese & English versions)

“SMILING” CAN HELP TO FEND OFF THE NEGATIVE ENERGY FROM OTHERS;
PERFORMING RECITATION CAN CHANGE OUR MAGNETIC FIELD FOR THE BETTER
Today, if you bump into someone who said something to annoy you, it would mean that your ‘magnetic field’ has been disturbed or even absorbed by the person. The best way to deal with this is to hold your ‘qi’ by not responding verbally and keep smiling.
Your ‘qi’ will be absorbed by him if you get agitated. Therefore, when you have difficulty communicating or annoyed with another person, you simply stop talking and keep smiling.
Remember, when you smile, you will be able to block the ‘qi’ of the other person. When you are being reprimanded by others and you react with a smile, they will get angrier. In this way, you block their ‘qi’.
If you fail to fend off the negative energy, you will have to transform the negative energy filed when you return home, this is a purification process. The method to purify is to sit on a chair in a comfortable environment and recite Great Compassion Mantra (Da Bei Zhou) once, followed by Heart Sutra (Xin Jing) three times. After about 5 minutes’ sincere recitation, you can easily eliminate the negative ‘energy field’ you received.
