THE MORE WE GIVE, THE MORE WE RECEIVE

Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program
Chinese & English
versions)

THE MORE WE GIVE, THE MORE WE RECEIVE
Master Jun Hong Lu: The more we give, the more we receive; the less we give, the less we receive; if we give nothing, we receive nothing . When Bodhisattva closes one door, rest assured that she will open another window. When we lose something in life, we will certainly gain other things elsewhere. What is most important is to have an optimistic mentality – believe that even when all seems lost, there will surely be something that we gain. Hence, we must be willing to relinquish. We have to face our losses with the right attitude as our loss today may become the one experience we gain in life, foretelling our impending success and what we are about to receive.

WILL BEING PUNISHED BY DHARMA PROTECTORS AFTER COMMITTING WRONGDOINGS HELP US TO ELIMINATE NEGATIVE KARMA

WILL BEING PUNISHED BY DHARMA PROTECTORS AFTER COMMITTING WRONGDOINGS HELP US TO ELIMINATE NEGATIVE KARMA
Caller: As Buddhist practitioners, we will have Dharma Protectors watching over us. If we commit any wrongdoings, we will be punished. After receiving this punishment, will a portion of the newly formed negative karma be eliminated? In other words, is it true that negative karma will only be eliminated when punishment is inflicted?
Master Jun Hong Lu: The absence of any punishment can only mean the accumulation of negative karma which will result in retribution on a larger scale after a certain degree of accumulation.

THE BUDDHIST MENTALITY OF LETTING GO

Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program
Chinese & English

THE BUDDHIST MENTALITY OF LETTING GO
Master Jun Hong Lu: We live in agony because we care too much; we hurt ourselves and others because we are filled with doubt. Take things lightly and we will live life happily; learn to let go and we will gain wisdom. After all, we exist as mere visitors in heaven and earth -- our relationships with all matters in the world are entirely governed by the law of causality and the affairs of our youth are lost in the past. Hence, the Buddhist mentality of letting go is about understanding the law of causality and having the ability to accord with all conditions.

HOW SHOULD WE ACT IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONDITIONS
Master Jun Hong Lu: An objective of Buddhism is for us to learn to let nature take its course and bear with all vexations, setbacks and failures we meet with in the course of our journey. Correspondingly, acting in accordance with conditions is encapsulated in our non-susceptibility to material happiness or low self-esteem and when we are sincere but undistinguished in dealing with others.

STOP WASTING OUR LIFE

Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program
Chinese & English

人生最大的错误是用健康换取身外之物;
人生最大的悲哀,是用生命换取你自己的烦恼;

STOP WASTING OUR LIFE
Master Jun Hong Lu: Let me give you some advice, which I hope everyone will keep in mind:
The greatest mistake in life is exchanging our health for mere worldly possessions;
The greatest sorrow in life is exchanging our life for personal troubles;
The greatest waste in life is spending our life resolving problems created by ourselves.
Indeed, the greatest error in life is incessantly repeating our own mistakes.

SOULS AND SPIRITS TEND TO BE INCOMPLETE WHEN WOKEN ABRUPTLY BY OTHERS

Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program
Chinese & English

SOULS AND SPIRITS TEND TO BE INCOMPLETE WHEN WOKEN ABRUPTLY BY OTHERS
Caller: A fellow Dharma practitioner was woken by his mother in a rough manner. He ended up feeling lethargic and very forgetful throughout the day. Master Lu, is this because his souls and spirits have not fully returned to his body?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes. When someone is sleeping, do not suddenly wake him up. Instead, you must do it in a gentle way. Many people are not aware of this, because the moment when a person has fallen asleep, in fact, his souls and spirits have also left his body. A lot of people have such experience: when they were suddenly being called while their souls and spirits were leaving their bodies, their souls and spirits would get lost, especially when this happens at night. That’s also why when you scare someone at night, his souls and spirits will tend to be incomplete.
Caller: How should he resolve this problem?
Master Jun Hong Lu: When one does not get enough sleep, the entire sleep will come to naught. When a person wakes up naturally, his sleep quality is the best. It is not so good to wake someone abruptly, no matter what. This is because we have our biological clocks. Envision the timing before sleep, just like setting an alarm. When you tell yourself, “I’ll get up at eight o’clock tomorrow” or “wake up at seven o’clock”, you will automatically wake up at the intended hour.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LACKING PREDESTINED AFFINITY AND HAVING AFFINITY THAT HAS YET TO COME

Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LACKING PREDESTINED AFFINITY AND HAVING AFFINITY THAT HAS YET TO COME
Caller: Is there a difference where one is said to have no predestined affinity as compared to one’s affinity has yet to come?
Master Jun Hong Lu: They are different for sure! Though it is said, ‘Guan Yin Bodhisattva is not able to help sentient beings who have no predestined affinity’, this is neither an absolute term in logic nor a circumstance that lasts the duration of one’s lifetime. Essentially, it means the person may not have the affinity at this moment in time. Though so, that does not necessarily mean that they will never have the affinity in their lifetime.
