【为何有的人求了很快灵，而有的人慢】

问：有些同修念了几年经了，有问题求了都没有成功；有些几个月就成功了。同样是许愿、念经、放生，那这是存在什么问题？愿力可能还是蛮大的，可是好像也没成功。

答：举个简单例子，两个人伤风感冒，一起到医院里，医生给他们一人开了一针消炎的，一针打下去他退烧了，那个打下去没退烧，你告诉我为什么吧？（一个病情比较重）好了，一个业障比较重。第二个，那个体质不好，他体质好（明白。几年了还没有，那就要继续努力，要更努力啊）你等到他哪一天努力成功的时候，边上那个人求的还没灵，他就说，“哎，这个人怎么一求就灵啊？为什么我求到今天还不灵啊？”那就是他看人家（明白了，感恩师父）

WHY SOME PRAYERS GET ANSWERED MORE SWIFTLY THAN OTHERS?

Caller: There are some Buddhist friends who have been performing recitation for a few years, however their prayers remained unanswered. On the other hand, there are others whom had their prayers answered even though they had only performed recitation for merely a few months. What could be the reason for this since in both cases, their practices were the same, i.e. making great vows, performing recitation of Buddhist scriptures and performing life liberation. Even though the determination of the former group of people is relatively strong, they just do not seem to be able to succeed.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Let me quote you a simple example. Two people were down with colds. Both went to the hospital to receive jabs, but only one managed to bring his fever down. Can you tell me why?

Caller: Could it be that the condition of one was more serious than the other?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  That’s right. One of them has weightier karmic obstacles. Secondly, one is in better health than the other.

Caller: I understand now. If they have yet to achieve what they set out to, that shows that they have to put in even more effort.

Master Lu: When the day comes that they succeed, others will think, “whoa! This person got his prayer answered so swiftly! Why is my prayer not answered till now?” The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Caller: I understand now. Thank you, Master Lu.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Through the use of this ingenious method to help and save people, you will be able to attain the state of a Bodhisattva. In fact, as long as you do well in your spiritual cultivation, and if you manage to save ten, or twenty thousand people, you are regarded as a Bodhisattva.

女听众：同修想问，“出口就是业”这句话这么理解？那平时该怎么样讲话呢？

台长答：出口就是业，分善业、恶业。讲好话、口吐莲花不是种善业吗？是不是业了？（对）好了，你为什么不能种善业？（哦，出口就讲好话？）嗯，出口就讲好话。人家说饭好了，“哎哟，感恩啊！”同样一句吃饭的话，你是不是造善业了？（是的）“哎哟，你修得真好！”“哎哟，我现在越看你越像菩萨。”讲得人家欢天喜地的，你说是不是造业了？（是的）好像听到“造业”很难过，好像是不好听的，实际上造善业也是造业，造恶业也是造业，听懂了吗？（听懂了）

UNDERSTANDING OF THE SAYING “WORDS ONCE UTTERED, WILL CONTRIBUTE TO KARMA”; WHAT SHOULD WE BE AWARE OF WHEN WE SPEAK

Caller:  A Buddhist friend would like to ask about the meaning of the saying “Words once uttered, will contribute to karma”.  What shall we be aware of when we speak?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Words uttered will contribute to karma, either good or bad ones.  The kind words that we speak are like lotuses coming out from our mouth.  It contributes to good karma — isn’t that karma too?

Caller:  Yes!

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Well! Why can’t you create good karma then?

Caller:  I see, that means we shall speak only kind words?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Yes, speak only kind words.  If someone tells you that the meal is ready, and you go, “Thanks, I appreciate that!”, with a simple reply of this kind, haven’t you created good karma?

Caller:  That’s right!

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Remarks such as “Hey, looks like you are doing well in your spiritual cultivation!”, “Nowadays, the more I look at you, the more I think you resemble Bodhisattva!”.  All these bring joy and happiness to others.  With that, don’t you think karma has been created?

Caller:  Yes.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  The words “creating karma” may sound upsetting and unpleasant.  But in fact, it refers to the creation of both good and bad karma.  Do you understand now?

Caller:  Yes, I understand now.

【如何严格管教孩子】

问：有一个两岁半的孩子，他的性格很霸道，不愿意给别人分享，因为两岁还没有这个意识，很霸道，喜欢推别人。像这种孩子特别霸道，在行为规范上做人这一块做得非常不好，我们做家长的可不可以严格地教训他、管教他、打他呢？

答：罚他啊，罚他跪在那里或者站在墙角上，不要打他，打孩子不好，除非你是特别爱，爱得太厉害才能打。一般的孩子，就是缘分不到，你不要去打他，有的时候缘分不到，这孩子跟你没有什么感情，你打他，他会跑掉的。

HOW TO BE STRICT WHEN YOU DISCIPLINE CHILDREN

Caller: There is a two-and-a-half-year-old child who due to lack of awareness at such a tender age, is overbearing, unwilling to share , and likes to push others around.  This child is particularly domineering, and especially poor in conduct.  Can we as parents be strict with him by lecturing, disciplining, and beating him?

Master Jun Hong Lu: You can punish him!  Make him kneel down or stand in a corner.  Do not beat a child, as it is not good to do so. The only exception to punish via a beating is when you have a deep-rooted love for your child.  In general, when the affinity between you and the child is not deep, and he does not have much affection for you, he will run away if you beat him.

台長语：学佛要学得自己感觉到开开心心。如果一个人经常跟人家讲是是非非，这个对了，那个错了，这个人已经被是非所缠绕。为什么我经常跟法师、跟弟子讲我们心胸要宽阔，对人间的一切是是非非不能被它所缠绕，要学会自然来自然去？“断烦恼”就是不要去把不该想的去想，不该做的去做，不该说的去说，因为烦恼是说出来的，做出来的，想出来的。所以真正有智慧的人，他心胸非常宽阔，他的心很正，他知道“明心方见性，悟者识菩提”。跟大家讲，这个世界上没有无缘无故的爱，没有无缘无故的恨，一定是跟你的上辈子有关系。所以真正有智慧的人是要看破、放下。

A WISE PERSON IS ONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO LET GO

Master Jun Hong Lu:
We should feel happy while following the path of Buddhism. If a person frequently gossip, he or she will have already become entwined within themselves.  Why do I keep reiterating to the Buddhist monks and my disciples the importance of being magnanimous, not allowing ourselves to become entwined in the right and wrong of this human realm, and learn to let nature take its course?

To break away from affliction is to stop dwelling on matters we should not be thinking about, not doing things that we aren’t supposed to do, and not saying things that we shouldn’t be saying.   Afflictions are a by-product of our speech, actions, and thoughts.

Therefore, a truly wise person is characterised by his or her magnanimity and righteousness.  He or she knows that one’s true nature can only be revealed via a pure heart, and only a wise person can attain enlightenment.

Let me tell you, everything happens for a reason.  Be it love or hatred, it has something to do with your previous life.  Therefore, a truly wise person is one who can look beyond and let go!

【为什么说放生可以聚财】

问：师父，您在1月21日的TU腾节目里说“放生可以聚财”。请师父开示一下这句话吧。

答：聚财，就是聚自己的才华、才德，实际上也是聚自己的财物。为什么呢？你放生、救人的话，你这个钱没有白用，你用到功德上去了（对对对）时间也没有白花，也是用在功德上了。那你是不是聚集了将来的财和得到的物品？因为按照因果定律，布施什么得什么，你布施财，得财，所以你是不是越布施越聚财？（是的。师父，如果想求财，是否需要在放生仪式上祈求观世音菩萨帮助放生者聚财呢？）不可以。因为你放生了，这个因种下去了，果一定会出来。今天一个农夫种下去西瓜种子，到明年这个时候才会长出西瓜来，他不可能天天对着种子说：“西瓜，快点长西瓜，以后我要赚钱啊！”你跟它讲：“长大！快点长大！”不可能的，还是老样子。讲和不讲没有什么用的，就是时间，明白吗？（明白，谢谢师父的慈悲开示）

HOW IS WEALTH AMASSED THROUGH PERFORMING LIFE LIBERATION?

Caller:  Master Lu, you mentioned on the 21 January on The Totem Program that, ‘a person is able to amass wealth through performing life liberation.’  Could you kindly elaborate on this?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Amassing wealth in this context includes building up one’s literary and moral capacities. Why is this so?  The money spent on performing life liberation is never wasted as you have spent it on your virtuous achievement of saving others.

Caller:  I agree.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  And, you have not wasted your time either.  You have used your time for virtuous achievement as well.  Aren’t you amassing future wealth and possessions as a result?  Based on the law of causality, what we give, we shall receive.  As you have given away wealth, you shall gain wealth. Therefore, the more you give, the more wealth is accumulated.

Caller:  That’s right.  Master, if a person wishes to pray for wealth, should they verbalize their intention to Guan Yin Bodhisattva during the life liberation ceremony?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  No, don’t do that.  When you perform life liberation, a cause is sown.  So, the effect will surely come about.  It is like a farmer who has sown watermelon seeds this year.  The fruit can only be harvested in the following year.  The farmer cannot be telling the seeds daily, ‘Please hurry up and give me watermelons as I need to make some money,’ or ‘Hurry up! Grow now!’ It doesn’t make any difference if they verbalize their intention or not; it takes time.  Do you understand?

Caller:  I understand.  Thank you for answering my question Master Lu.

【面对困难考验时怎样增强自己的信心】

男听众：请问师父，我们面对人间很多困难考验的时候心里会产生忧郁、恐惧，担心结果，遇到这种问题的时候怎样来增强自己的信心？

台长答：一个人要吃苦才会得乐，要想好好学佛，就要明白道理，为什么要学佛？因为我们吃苦了，我们才要好好学佛。一个人要懂得怎么样坚定信心，要经常想想，“我过去吃了这么多的苦，我现在要超脱”，所以过去有句话叫“忆苦思甜”。你今天觉得自己很快乐了，你就会进步，就会精进，你经常想想你过去活在这个世界上是人不像人，鬼不像鬼的。就是这个道理。

HOW TO FACE DIFFICULTIES OR CHALLENGES WITH MORE CONFIDENCE

Caller: Master Lu, we tend to feel depressed, fearful, or anxious about the outcomes of the many difficulties or challenges in life.  How do we develop more confidence when facing such situations?

Master Jun Hong Lu: A person will only gain happiness if he or she is able to endure hardships.  In learning Buddhism we must understand the truths of life.  Why should we learn Buddhism?  It is because we have suffered so much that we feel the need to do so.  To remain steadfast in our practice, we must constantly remind ourselves, ‘As I have gone through so many hardships, I must now liberate myself from sufferings ’.   There is a quote that says, ‘Recall past misery and cherish present happiness’.  When you feel happy today, you will make progress and be diligent in your practice, especially when you recollect the miserable life you used to lead in the past.  It’s as simple as that.

【入住酒店念大悲咒】

问：师父开示过，入住酒店的时候要向四面墙各念一遍大悲咒。如果是几个同修一同入住同一间房，大家分担，每人向一面墙念一遍大悲咒，可以吗？

答：一起念大悲咒，就相当于共修，房间里就气场好了，也不用对着四面念。没有人，自己能力不够、法力不够的情况下，对着四面念；如果大家一起念，不用对着四面念，佛声环绕，余音绕梁。可以每个人念诵3遍大悲咒。

RECITATION OF THE GREAT COMPASSION MANTRA AFTER CHECKING INTO A HOTEL ROOM

Question: Master, you advised us, when we check into a hotel room, we need to recite the Great Compassion Mantra once for each of the four walls in the room.  If a few Buddhist friends are sharing the same room, can they split the recitation such that each person recites the Great Compassion Mantra once for only one of the four walls?

Answer: When a few people are reciting the Great Compassion Mantra together, the effect is as good as that of group cultivation.  The energy field in the hotel room will naturally be improved, and so it is unnecessary for each person to recite it for all four walls.  However, when you are staying alone in a hotel room, as you have less spiritual power on your own, you will need to recite the Great Compassion Mantra one wall at a time, facing each of the four walls in turn.  On an occasion where a few people are reciting the mantra together, it is unnecessary to do this as the 'sound of Buddha' surrounds and reverberates around the room.  As such, each person may recite the Great Compassion Mantra three times.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Ching Ming (Tomb sweeping) festival is just around the corner; I hope everyone will take extra precautions in this period.  Please perform more recitations prior to the festival.  For the most part, in memory of the deceased, you must offer more Little Houses to them.  On top of that, please be particularly cautious yourself; it is best that you pray to Guan Yin Bodhisattva for blessings prior to any major proceedings.  I hope everyone will stay safe throughout the period prior and after Ching Ming.

台长答：那当然了。因为吃素的人就是非常干净，身体上干净，心里才会干净，心里干净，八识田中干净，那你当然就多一份干净，少一份肮脏了。

Caller: Master, is it true that being a vegetarian not only will purify our body and blood, but also our Eighth Consciousness, and awaken our Buddha nature?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Certainly so.  A person who is on vegetarian diet is very pure.  Only when your body is pure, your heart can be so.  That being said, when your heart is pure, your Eighth Consciousness will be pure.  Hence, with lesser degree of impurity you attain greater purity.

【修得好的人，身上很多业障会去掉】

台长语：有些人真的很可怜，连设佛台的机会都没有。家里先生不同意，这不就是业障吗？没这个条件。很多事情都是一种业障在阻碍着自己。如果到今天为止，你连设佛台都做不到，信佛多痛苦！为什么让一个人开悟能够消掉很多业障？实际上本身就是一种能量体的体现。修得好的人，慢慢地身上很多业障就会去掉；修得不好的人，很多业障去不掉。

GOOD SPIRITUAL CULTIVATION CAN ELIMINATE A LOT OF KARMIC OBSTACLES

Master Jun Hong Lu: Some people are really pitiable, they don't even have a chance to set up Buddhist altars at home as their husbands are opposed to the idea.  Don’t you think this is a karmic obstacle?  They simply don't have the luxury of doing so.  Our karmic obstacles can hinder us in many ways.  On your path of practising Buddhism, if you do not have a Buddhist altar at home as yet, how miserable is that?  Why are enlightened people able to eliminate such substantial amounts of their karmic obstacles?  In fact, it is an embodiment of a form of energy.  People who are good in their spiritual cultivation are able to gradually eliminate considerable amounts of their karmic obstacles – something that will not be experienced by those who do not do well in this aspect.

POWER OF ENDURANCE

The utmost accomplishment in cultivation is one's ability to endure, as our endurance is our greatest strength.  If you wish for serenity and peace at home, you have to endure; if you wish for social safety, you have to learn to endure; if you wish to resolve troubles, you must learn to endure; only then you could survive in this world.  Therefore, we have to adopt the wisdom of Buddha to resolve troubles in our daily lives.  We ought to learn three methods in life: firstly, learn to admit our mistake; because after you have admitted, the mistake will no longer exist.  Secondly, learn to be flexible, patient and accommodating.  Thirdly, seek to understand and learn to let go.

【怎样增加自己与观世音菩萨的缘分】

男听众：师父，是不是我们与观世音菩萨的缘分越深，在修行中得到菩萨的加持越多，越容易修成呢？

台长答：那当然了，肯定的。你们不要说观世音菩萨，你们跟师父的缘分深的人，肯定师父加持也多。我上次讲了一句话，在我们徒弟课上讲的，我把这个讲给你们听听。你们天天看观世音菩萨，菩萨也看你们的啊（嗯嗯）因为你们磕头的时候，你们看着观世音菩萨，看得很熟，观世音菩萨老看见你在佛堂里磕头的，等到你有什么灾、有什么难，你一叫，菩萨一看就是你，他就会下来马上帮你。举个简单例子，很多人给我看照片，我一看“这个人很熟的”，一看我就帮他。请台长看看这个人怎么样，我一看“这个人我熟的”，马上给他看了。

台长答：你看观世音菩萨也是这样的，你们跪着那么多，你们天天给观世音菩萨看，菩萨把你们脸都记得住的。等到以后你们上去，你说“观世音菩萨您来救我”，那你至少让菩萨知道你是谁啊（对对对。那人间这个情意越深，得到菩萨的加持越多）对啊。不要讲其他了，就是我们佛陀，当年五百个弟子跟着佛陀，你看佛陀最后把五百个弟子全部带到天上，全部都成为菩萨了，阿难、迦叶，全部都变成大菩萨了（对对）所以有些时候大家懂就好了。菩萨怎么不讲感情？不讲感情怎么有求必应？只不过不是人间的那种很滥的感情，而是讲的一种佛情，它是一种大的，大爱无疆，是这种概念。但是你要是天天磕头，菩萨认识你了，所以我叫你们抬头看菩萨的时候，要看着观世音菩萨的脸，头低下来磕的时候，眼睛要闭起来。你要让菩萨认识你，就是你以后到了天上，观世音菩萨一眼就认出你来，你是什么国家什么地方的，你是学心灵法门的，观世音菩萨以后都认识你了。

HOW DO WE ENHANCE OUR POSITIVE AFFINITY WITH GUAN YIN BODHISATTVA

Caller: Master Lu, is it true that the deeper our positive affinity with Guan Yin Bodhisattva, the more blessings we will gain and the easier it is for us to make it in our spiritual cultivation?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s for sure. Even your positive affinity with me shares the same logic - the more positive affinity we have between us, the more blessings you will receive. Previously, I mentioned this in one of the discourses to my disciples. Let me share this with you now. As much as you gaze at Guan Yin Bodhisattva, Guan Yin Bodhisattva is also watching over you. When you frequently perform prostrations in front of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, you grow accustomed to gazing at Bodhisattva. At the same time, Guan Yin Bodhisattva is accustomed to seeing you perform prostrations at the Guan Yin Hall. Hence, should you be faced with any calamities at some point in your life, Guan Yin Bodhisattva will recognise you right away and render you a helping hand, For example, if someone showed me a photo of a familiar face and asks me to read the person’s totem, I will help that person right away. 

Master Jun Hong Lu: The same goes with Guan Yin Bodhisattva. By performing daily prostrations, Guan Yin Bodhisattva will be familiar with your face. Hence, it will be possible for you to seek help from Guan Yin Bodhisattva when you are in Heaven.

Caller: That’s right. Generally, the deeper the affection we have now in the human realm, the more blessings we will receive.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Take Shakyamuni Buddha for example. Out of his 500 disciples, all of them were able to ascend to Heaven and become great Bodhisattvas, this also includes Ananda and Mahakasyapa. In fact, the Bodhisattva’s vow of  “all prayers will be answered” is fuelled by Bodhisattva’s affection towards sentient beings. Of course it is not about the superfluous affection of the human realm but a profound and boundless concept of affection. However, when you perform prostrations on a daily basis, Bodhisattva will recognise you. Hence, when you raise your head to look at Bodhisattva, you should have your eyes wide open to gaze at the face of Bodhisattva. When you lower your head in prostration, your eyes should be closed. You will have to aim to allow  Guan Yin Bodhisattva to recognise you. In the future when you make your way to Heaven, Guan Yin Bodhisattva will know everything about you with a mere glance, including where you hail from, and that you are a Guan Yin Citta practitioner.

原谅别人就是善待自己；想要得到别人的帮助，你就要先去帮助别人；想要得到别人的爱，你先去爱别人；想要得到利益，你先给别人利益；能够包容别人，你能够使对手成为你的朋友。所以一生要学会吃两样东西：一个是吃苦，更重要的是学会吃亏！

Master Jun Hong Lu, “If you wish to receive help from others, you must first offer others your help; if you wish to be loved by others, you must first love others; if you wish to gain advantage, you must first let others gain advantage from you; a tolerant person is able to transform a foe to a friend.  There are two things that you must learn to endure in life - one, is to learn to endure hardships, and what is more important, is to learn to endure getting the short end of the stick.”
