SPIRITUAL CULTIVATION IS THE WAY TO HELP US ELIMINATE ALL OUR EVIL THOUGHTS, BAD HABITS AND POOR CONDUCT

Master Jun Hong Lu’s Public Talk
Melbourne, Australia
November 12, 2017

In this modern age, we are preoccupied with self-interests and are less considerate towards others.  When we are at odds with our spouse or children, we only care about our own feelings and disregard theirs.  For this reason, we chose to utter words that are most hurtful to the other party in order to gain a temporary sense of happiness and alleviation from sufferings.  As a result, we become more and more evil.  Spiritual cultivation is the way to help us eliminate all our evil thoughts, bad habits and poor conduct.

THE AMOUNT OF KARMIC DEBTS ELIMINATED BY ATTENDING THE 2017 SINGAPORE PUBLIC TALK

Wenda20170115B  10:50
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Caller: Master Lu, what percentage of our karmic debts can be eliminated by attending the Singapore Public Talk?

Master Jun Hong Lu: A lot.

Caller: A lot? Will it be eliminated by 5%?

Master Jun Hong Lu: It's way more than that! No kidding!

Caller: Wow, that's a lot! Then I must go!

Master Jun Hong Lu: It's definitely more than 5%! This Public Talk would eliminate far more than 5% of karmic debts!

SCHOOL MEALS FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE VEGETARIANS

Wenda20171119A   52:28
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Caller:  Master Lu, as there are still many schools that do not provide vegetarian food, please enlighten us on issue pertaining to school meals for children who practice full vegetarianism.  Under such circumstances, what is the impact on these children?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Bring it from home.  Parents should prepare vegetarian meals for their children from home.  All these will bring about merits and virtues.

USING WISDOM AND ADOPTING INGENIOUS APPROACHES TO HELPING PEOPLE

As winter approaches, many people are saying, “I would like to save people, but I’m worried that they might not believe in Buddhist teachings, or he is wicked. Instead of saving him, I might bear the consequences of his karmic debts and land myself in deep water.”

I would like to tell everyone this story that happened during a cold winter day.

A Buddhist monk and his disciple found a snake stiff and frozen with cold, lying beside the road.  The monk would have liked to save the snake, but was stopped by his disciple who said, “Master, have you forgotten the story of the Farmer and the Snake?  The monk replied, “Of course not.”  “Then why do you still want to save it?” asked his disciple.  The monk answered, “There are many ways to save the snake.  I may not use the same way as the farmer did.  I don’t necessarily have to put the snake in my arms in order to save it.”  Soon after, the monk picked up some firewood and lit a fire beside the road, and the snake was gradually revived by the warmth.  The monk said, “There are always multiple ways to perform good deeds.  The same applies to how we introduce Buddhism to people, we have to adopt diversified methods for helping people.”

When we encounter an evil person, we should not hold ourselves back from doing good deeds for fear of bearing negative consequences.  As Buddhist practitioners, we should instead choose our approach to introducing Buddhist teachings to all sentient beings wisely, so that we will not be penalised for our kind-heartedness.  This is what the miraculous Dharma is about; an ingenious approach.  It is Wisdom that enables us to help more people to attain enlightenment.

PERFORM RECITATION DILIGENTLY WHILE IN GOOD HEALTH

Wenda20161125 01:01:45
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller: Some cancer patients encounter difficulties in performing recitation due to physical weakness, despite having a willing heart. In this case, how should they say their prayers to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, so that they can have the energy to recite Little Houses for themselves?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s impossible. This is the case where karmic debts have come into effect. You only pray for blessings after the eruption of your karmic debts: “My health is not good now and I am unable to perform recitation”. Why can’t you recite diligently when you were in good health? The thing is, you did not recite diligently when you were healthy, and that’s why you are suffering from a poor health now. This karmic eruption will definitely make it difficult for you to perform recitation, and not being able to perform recitation is, by itself, another form of karmic retribution. Therefore, you can only endure it as you are receiving your retribution.

CONTROL YOUR ANGER

Master Jun Hong Lu's
Public Talk in Singapore
April 23, 2016

In this world, no matter how intelligent, wealthy or powerful a person is, they will lack judgement when they are in a state of anger.  Let me share a tip with you - the next time you are outraged, when you think that “I must let it out!”, the best way is to wait for one minute.  This is because a person will lose all of his judgement when he is outraged, and this ability will only return to its normal state after one minute.

So, the next time you are at the verge of an argument with your spouse, look at your watch and do not say a word.  After one minute, put it down and you will say, “There is no way that I am going to fight with you.  I am a Buddhist practitioner, I have regained my senses”.

Please remember never make any major decision when you are in a state of outrage, as you will regret it for the rest of your life.

MAKING OF A VOW OF LITTLE HOUSE RECITATION

Wenda20160605B  30:21  [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller:  Master Lu, may I know whether, under normal circumstances where one does not suspect that he has any karmic creditors, it is necessary for him to make a vow as to how many pieces of Little House they will offer per batch? What is the difference when one makes a vow of offering seven pieces weekly compared to offering the Little House in the absence of a vow, where they do the offering at the appropriate time?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  There is a difference.  A vow made means that the Little Houses are offered to achieve a certain objective, hence the vow comes with a figure, i.e., number of pieces specified.  It normally denotes that there is some degree of urgency to it.  On the other hand, without a vow made, the number of pieces to be offered is all up to you.  The nature of these Little Houses serves as an accumulation, like a saving.  Do you understand?

Caller:  Under normal circumstances where a person does not suspect that he has any karmic creditors, then there is no need to intentionally make any vow as to the number of pieces to be offered?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  That’s right.  You only make a vow when there is some “matter to be resolved”.  Otherwise, you do not have to make such a vow.

WHY SOME PEOPLE ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO BE SAVED?

Shuohua20150522 00:56 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

WHY SOME PEOPLE ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO BE SAVED?

Master Jun Hong Lu: There are some who have performed excessive acts of killing. When their karmic retribution comes about, they can no longer be saved.

Once when I was reading a man’s Totem, I said to the spirit: “Well, let it pass. Spare his life.”

As a result, the spirit transmitted to me a scene on how this guy had tormented him. He then said, “How am I supposed to forgive this kind of person?” I was speechless!

That man actually drew out his tendons and skinned him alive! Aren’t the fishmongers and butchers doing the same to animals? How can a person ever avoid the karmic retributions of such evil acts?

WILL FOREIGN SPIRITS ENTER A CAR WHICH HAS BEEN LEFT UN-DRIVEN IN THE BASEMENT GARAGE FOR A LONG TIME? FOREIGN SPIRITS ARE MORE LIKELY TO ENTER THINGS THAT ARE STATIC

Shuohua20160729 17:11 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller:  Master, please enlighten us.  If a car has been parked in the basement garage for a long time, will spirits enter this un-driven car?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  It is possible.  But it all depends on the situation.  It is alright if there are several cars parked together, but a lone car parked there for a long period may attract foreign spirits to enter it.

Caller:  Oh, what should we do then?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Start the engines every now and then and try to drive the car whenever possible.

Caller:  How often should this be done?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Start the engines once a week.  Move everything once in a while because spirits will enter anything that is left static.

WHAT IS THE TRUE ESSENCE OF GUAN YIN CITTA DHARMA DOOR?

Master Jun Hong Lu’s Discourse on Question 119
July 24, 2016

Question: When introducing Dharma to people, if we are asked what the true essence of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is, how should we answer it?

Answer: The true essence of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is the true essence of Buddhist teachings, because Guan Yin Citta has been propagating and introducing Buddhist teachings to all sentient beings.  The teachings of Guan Yin Citta is in line with that of Dharma, which emphasise that everything is characterised by suffering, emptiness and impermanence. The aim of Guan Yin Citta is to help people achieve enlightenment, remove vexations, overcome ignorance and gain wisdom, be liberated from one’s own constraints and attain the desired state of mind.

RECITING THE EIGHTY-EIGHT BUDDHAS GREAT REPENTANCE (LI FO DA CHAN HUI WEN) IN AN EVEN MORE PIOUS MANNER ON CLOUDY DAYS

Wenda20150213  01:01:01  [Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program]

Caller: Master Lu, one night you appeared in my dream with a lot of discourses, but when I woke up in the next morning, I could not remember any of those except one that was very clear, saying “There are specific rules to observe when reciting the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Da Chan Hui Wen) during cloudy days”.  I would like you to elaborate further on this.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Well, it simply means that you have to recite it in an even more pious manner.  Before performing the recitation, you have to say the prayer, “May the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me with your compassion, I will now recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance.”  In this way, you won’t be inviting punishment from Dharma protectors.  This is because there tend to be many little foreign spirits when the sky is cloudy or overcast.  While you are reciting the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance, these spirits will be jealous of you when you do not receive any punishment for your wrongdoings.  “Why is he not beaten or brought down (to the nether world) by Dharma protectors for his many sins?”  So they will complain to the Dharma protectors in order to have their injustice addressed.

Caller: That means we have to perform our recitation even more mindfully and piously during cloudy days, right?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, and you cannot have any single evil thought or notion during the recitation.

Caller: Ok.

ABSENCE OF RESENTMENT IN A BUDDHIST PRACTITIONER

Wenda20120506B 11:28 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: I am one of Master Lu’s followers. However, I still harbour feelings of resentment and vengeance within every time I encounter a difficult situation. Why is this so?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Everything happens as a result of karma. A true Buddhist practitioner is one who is compassionate and able to forget the shortcomings of others. If you are compassionate, you should not hate others. If you still harbour thoughts of resentment and vengeance, it shows that you are still lacking in your cultivation. We can only try our best to advise people who we have lower expectations of, not to hate others.
Resentment cannot resolve your problems but will only hurt you. For example, say you hate a person to the core and eventually get them landed in jail for five years. When they almost complete his jail term, you would be terrified, as you would be unable to anticipate what they will do to seek revenge against you after their release from prison. Such torment will go on forever. Therefore, a true Buddhist practitioner must not hate others. Let bygones be bygones and you will be able to avoid a disaster.

A POSITIVE MINDSET

Master Lu’s Public Talk in France
11 September 2015

We must learn to govern our mindset; though difficult, it is utterly vital in the world that we live in.
With a good mindset, your life will turn out to be more pleasant. Lower that yardstick of happiness, and you shall lead a happier life. Hence, it is a person's mindset that it all sums up to.

HOW TO IMPROVE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE THROUGH RECITATION

Wenda20111211 04:19 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: Master Lu, I have been wishing to improve my academic performance lately. Do you think my current recitations are sufficient?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, but you will have to strengthen your Heart Sutra (Xin Jing). For the purpose of improving academic performance, you need to recite Heart Sutra and Cundi Dharani (Zhun Ti Shen Zhou).

For Cundi Dharani, recite 49 times. It is very short and you do not need much time to complete it once you memorized it.
Caller: At present, I am reciting 49 times Cundi Dharani and 21 times Sapta Atitabuddha Karasaniya Dharani (Qi Fo Mie Zui Zhen Yan).
Master Jun Hong Lu: But you need to strengthen your Heart Sutra to enhance your wisdom.
Caller: I will do that.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Prior to examination, cut back on non-vegetarian diet. In addition, before recitation, avoid garlic and food that causes bad breath. Do you think Bodhisattva will ever visit when you do your recitation with a breath covered with foul smell?
Caller: Understand. Thank you Master Lu.

NON-VEGETARIAN WEDDING BANQUET

Master Jun Hong Lu’s Discourse
(Question 119)

Question: I became Master Lu’s disciple in year 2014. It was my plan to hold a vegetarian wedding banquet. However, I have failed to get the consent from my family members to do so. I have changed all the dishes in the hotel's menu that is cooked with live creatures to frozen ingredients. However, I am still worried, as this is not a vegetarian wedding banquet, will it affect the status of my Lotus flower?
Answer: It will not directly cause your Lotus flower to "fall". However, it will deplete a great amount of your karmic rewards. The situation looks better now as no live creatures are consumed, hence no killing took place. Bear in mind, should there be any live creatures consumed, you shall expect big trouble.

IT’S POSSIBLE TO TRANSCEND THE CYCLE OF REBIRTH BY PRACTICING GUAN YIN CITTA

Wenda20150213 01:43:04 [Master Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller: A Buddhist practitioner dreamt about hearing a voice telling him: “ A Buddhist practitioner known as XX has only 4% of karmic obstacles now.” In his dream, he thought to himself, this means the person would be able to transcend the cycle of rebirth, doesn’t it? Then another voice said: “This is the first Guan Yin Citta practitioner to achieve such a level.” This Buddhist practitioner thought: Many practitioners of Guan Yin Citta had already become Bodhisattvas but vow to be reborn and save more sentient beings” He pondered again and realized this is the first person practicing Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door to achieve such a level through self-cultivation. When he woke up, he was immersed in bliss. This is to say that one could transcend the cycle of rebirth in this lifetime by practicing Guan Yin Citta!

Master Lu: Oh, of course! Even for a bad person…there was an old saying “A butcher becomes a Buddha the moment he drops his cleaver”. When you put your heart and soul into practicing Buddhism and cultivating your mind, you will surely be able to transcend the cycle of rebirth. No matter how many wrongdoings you have committed previously, you could still change your life! As long as you wake up to the truth of life, you are awakened. You will still be dreaming if you don’t wake up to the truth. Only when you are awakened will you realize that you have succeeded (Yes, indeed).

A PERSON’S VOW OF BECOMING A FULL VEGETARIAN WILL BE AFFECTED BY UNINTENTIONAL CONSUMPTION OF NON-VEGETARIAN FOOD

Shuohua20161209 20:44
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

A PERSON’S VOW OF BECOMING A FULL VEGETARIAN WILL BE AFFECTED BY UNINTENTIONAL CONSUMPTION OF NON-VEGETARIAN FOOD

Caller: Master Lu, I heard in your previous programs that there were Buddhist practitioners who breached their vows of practising vegetarianism unknowingly till you performed Totem reading on them. At times, due to the circumstances we are in, or when we are unaware, we may, as full vegetarian, consume some non-vegetarian food. In cases where we are unable to get through to Master Lu’s hotline and we are also unsuspecting of such wrongdoings, is this considered as breaching of vows? Will it affect the vow we have made to become a full vegetarian?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Of course, it will affect the vow you have made. Regardless of whether you have done it intentionally or unintentionally, there will be resultant karma. To quote an example, if you accidentally kill someone in an automobile accident this year, will you still be sentenced by the law? That’s for sure, right?

BUDDHIST PRACTITIONERS ARE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO KARMIC RETRIBUTION IN THEIR CURRENT LIFETIME?

Wenda20160605A  03:06 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller:  Is it true that Buddhist practitioners are more susceptible to karmic retribution in their current lifetime?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  This statement has a certain degree of truth to it. Buddhist practitioners are more “responsive” to the sentiments of present retribution as these sentiments serve as reminders to deter them from continuing to commit more major blunders.  Let me quote you a very simple example, a physician will be very sensitive to even the most minute disorder in his body. However, for a non-medical practitioner, any slight disorder in his body will be conveniently ignored, and before he knew it, it has turned into a serious disorder one day and it took his life away.

Caller:  As Buddhist practitioners, through our practice of Dharma, we may have some dreams, some “response” or we may even be receiving some “directives” from Bodhisattva, through which we are able to repent for, and perform recitation to offer merits to, our karmic creditors.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  That’s right.  One would rather suffer from some minor retributions.  Otherwise, should such retributions be carried forward to the next life, the effect of major retributions will be even more drastic.  Here is the concept: in the event that minor retribution did not take place, difficulties would appear for a person attempting to attain “perfection” from the many good deeds that they may have performed.

HOW TO OVERCOME STRESS ASSOCIATED WITH CULTIVATION

Wenda20140504B 50:18 [Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program]

Caller:  A friend of mine in my neighbourhood used to be a fellow practitioner but had given up in the end.  According to her, though she had benefited a lot from the practice, she felt that doing daily recitation and Little Houses had taken up too much of her time. On top of that, she still had to take care of her children.  As such, she felt very stressed out.  I asked her if she had experienced positive changes in her life brought about by the practice and she was quite certain she did. What advice shall I offer her?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  It’s very simple.  Do the monks get stressed out by performing recitations day in and day out?  No pain, no gain. A person who refuses to study hard will end up learning nothing and working in low-skilled jobs. Without diligent cultivation, how are you going to succeed? How can she possibly change her life if she thinks that doing a little chanting gives rise to pressure? It would be too late when she starts regretting on her deathbed one day, praying to the Bodhisattva that she would recite scriptures. There’s nothing I can say about your friend. It can be attributed to lack of conditions, her laziness and weakness.

Caller:  Understood.

Metaphysics Q&A 156 – THE ORDER OF RECITATION FOR LITTLE HOUSES

Metaphysics Q&A 156 – The order of recitation for Little Houses

Q156: Hi Master Lu, there are four types of sutras and mantras included in the Little House. What is the best order to recite them?

A156:

The “Little House” consists of a combination of sutras and mantras. The order in which you recite the sutras and mantras for the Little House does not matter.
According to the latest teachings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, the best method to recite the Little House is to recite the Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou) in sessions. You can start with reciting the Great Compassion Mantra 7 or more times, then recite another sutra or mantra. Each time before you recite a different sutra or mantra, you can recite the Great Compassion Mantra another 3 times. At the end, you can complete the remaining number for the Great Compassion Mantra.
For example:
Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou) 9 times
Great Compassion Mantra 3 times, followed by Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching) 49 times
Great Compassion Mantra 3 times, followed by Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra (Wang Sheng Chou) 84 times
Great Compassion Mantra 3 times, followed by Sapta Atitabuddha Karasaniya Dharani (Chi Fo Mieh Tsui Chen Yan) 87 times
Great Compassion Mantra 9 times
This method of performing recitations ensures that the Little Houses are further enhanced with energy, as each Little House would effectively be bounded by the power of the Great Compassion Mantra. This way, the Little Houses would be more effective in terms of protection and blessings.
While some people recite several Little Houses at the same time, others may take many sessions before they can complete the recitations for one Little House. You can adjust your method of recitations according to your own situation.
In summary, it is best to begin and finish reciting each Little House with the Great Compassion Mantra. Before reciting a different sutra or mantra, it would also be best to start with reciting the Great Compassion Mantra. The Great Compassion Mantra recited can be counted as part of the Little House, or recited as extra recitations to enhance the effectiveness.
It is alright if conditions do not allow you to perform recitations for the Little House in this way. It is most important that you perform recitations mindfully and sincerely.

WHEN YOU ARE ON THE VERGE OF LOSING YOUR TEMPER, RECITE 10 TIMES “MAY GUAN YIN BODHISATTVA HAVE COMPASSION ON ME, AND HELP ME TRANSFORM THE GREED, HATRED AND DELUSION WITHIN ME”

Wenda20161211A 03:59
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller: Master Lu, you advised us before that when we are enraged and are on the verge of losing our temper, we may recite in silence “May Guan Yin Bodhisattva help me to transform the greed, hatred and delusion within me” 10 times. Is that right?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, this is the latest from yesterday’s discourse. Let me tell you, you must say, “May Guan Yin Bodhisattva have compassion on me and help me transform the greed, hatred and ignorance within me.” How does this work? It is because every anger stems from the three poisons, being Greed, Anger and Delusion.

Caller: In that case should we start first, by reciting in silence “May Guan Yin Bodhisattva have compassion on me and help me to transform the greed, hatred and delusion within me” or should we recite the Mantra To Untie Karmic Knots, or at times like this, should we first take a seat or should we pray to Bodhisattva directly?

Master Jun Hong Lu: When you are on the verge of flying into a rage, firstly you should pray to Bodhisattva, followed by performing recitation. That will be perfect! After doing so, see for yourself, whether you would still get angry.

Caller: Indeed, relating to Bodhisattva is also considered an ingenious approach.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Try it out and you will know what I mean. In fact, from the psychological point of view, when a person is fuming in anger, try to calm down and your anger will slowly subside.

*BUDDHIST CULTIVATION REQUIRES US TO FOLLOW WHAT IS TRUE, RATHER THAN FOLLOW A CERTAIN INDIVIDUAL*

Wenda20150109 33:16
(Master Jun Hong Lu's call-in radio program)

Caller: Two days ago, I came across a paragraph which speaks to me and posted it to the group chat of our practice centre. Let me read it to you.  It states: "Being disciples, we must be respectful to our master and must not defy anything that he says. Even if our master says that the sun rises in the west, we have to accept and believe it without any doubt."

Earlier batches of disciples with pure mind would have accepted everything that you said; believing that every word of yours is no different from those of Buddha. Today, few are able to achieve this. If you are to say that the sun rises in the west, someone will immediately point out to you and say: "Master, you are wrong.  You are absolutely incorrect”.

After I posted the passage to the group chat, a Buddhist friend told me that those words are totally ignorant.  Master, what is your view on this? Is this an ignorant passage? I don’t think it is.

Master Jun Hong Lu: It certainly is. You are extremely ignorant. We should only rely upon the truth and not the person who teaches it.

How many masters are there in this world? If the immoral masters tell you that the sun rises in the west, do you accept their words? This is against ethics and morality. It is alright to tell people that my master will not say such untrue things, and therefore I follow him. But if your master says such things, then you must not listen to him. Put simply, follow what is true and not because it comes from a certain individual. You are too foolish.

Caller: I understand now. I too don’t believe that you will say such untruthful things.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  You should not use this as an example.  It is as though you are saying I said something that is well known to be filthy.  Do you think anyone is able to accept it?  This is ridiculous! By posting this paragraph, you have already committed slander. Posting such a paragraph is a sarcasm to your master. Will I say the sun rises in the west? Don’t you think you are ignorant? I think something is wrong with you.

Caller: I’m sorry, Master Lu. I realise my mistake.

Master Jun Hong Lu: So many of you still lack wisdom! Do you still think that you are protecting dharma? You are in fact mocking your master. Will your master insist that the sun rises in the west? If I do that, I would be referring to a deer and calling it a horse, which is unacceptable. Remember, follow what is true rather than the individual. We practise righteous dharma.  The views you have are unorthodox. You are really lacking in wisdom. Do repent immediately!

Metaphysics Q&A 157 – OFFERING LITTLE HOUSES TO UNTIE KARMIC KNOTS

Metaphysics Q&A 157 – Offering Little Houses to untie karmic knots

Q157: I was unwise in the past, and have caused damage in my previous relationships. Now I have realised the mistakes that I have made, and I am reciting the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) as well as the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots (Chieh Chieh Chou) to repent my wrongdoings. Do I also need to offer Little Houses? What should I do?

A157:

The recitation of the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots is effective, provided that the damage is not severe, otherwise the negative karmic ties would still not be completely resolved.  For example, you accidentally bumped into someone and you apologize, then this person forgives you and it is over. However, if you have caused injuries to this person, simply saying sorry is not enough to resolve the issue. You would need to offer Little Houses to untie karmic knots. This helps to transform and resolve negative karmic ties in a much more powerful and effective way.

You can address the Little House to “Untie the karmic knots of <your full name>”. In the prayer you can say, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <your full name>, help me to untie karmic knots with <full name of the other person>, and to transform and resolve our conflicts.” You can also say your prayer in a general form, for example, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <your full name>, help me to untie karmic knots.”

Little Houses to untie karmic knots are different to Little Houses for Karmic Creditors. Karmic Creditors are those to whom you owe karmic debts from your previous or present lives, or deceased people who have karmic relationships with you. You can have both positive and negative karmic relationships with your Karmic Creditors.

Little Houses to untie karmic knots are specifically used for resolving negative karmic ties that were solely caused by negative karmic relationships. Other Karmic Creditors would not be able to receive them. Using Little Houses to untie karmic knots is very effective for resolving conflicts.
Little Houses to untie karmic knots cannot replace Little Houses for Karmic Creditors. You still need to continue your offerings to your Karmic Creditors. If you feel that you are having more conflicts with others, or you wish to resolve long-term conflicts, then you can recite Little Houses to untie karmic knots in batches of 7 or 21.  You can also recite the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots at the same time.
This method is effective for resolving problems in family relationships, issues with neighbours or co-workers, and all other interpersonal conflicts.
You can also offer Little Houses to untie karmic knots on behalf of other people. For example, if your parents often have arguments, you can help them with their relationship by addressing Little Houses to “Untie the karmic knots of <full name of your father or mother>”. Please note that you do not write both of your parents’ names down. One name is sufficient.

Metaphysics Q&A 158 – PRAYERS FOR RECITING LITTLE HOUSES

Metaphysics Q&A 158 – Prayers for reciting Little Houses

Q158: Master Lu, when we recite Little Houses, do we say the same prayers as we do for our Daily Recitation? In the past, I was not aware of this and I have been saying the same prayers. Recently, I was told that this is not encouraged. What should I do?

A158:

Daily Recitation is different to recitations for Little Houses. Daily Recitation is similar to our daily expenditure, whereas Little Houses are similar to mortgage or loan payments. We need to separate the prayers and the number of recitations that we perform for each of them. Please do not mix them up. We pray for ourselves when we perform our Daily Recitation e.g. for good health, gaining wisdom, etc. Little Houses are offered to Karmic Creditors or deceased people. We do not pray for ourselves as recitations for Little Houses are for the purpose of repaying karmic debts.

In the case where we have a strong intention to pray for ourselves while we recite Little Houses, and we do not promptly fill in the red dots in the circles on the Little Houses after we finish reciting, then the recitations performed are very likely to become part of our Daily Recitation instead. In other words, when we fill in the circles at a later stage, the energy or merits from the recitation would already have been used, which would void the Little House. This could be one of the reasons why some Buddhist followers still do not experience significant effects even after they have offered a large number of Little Houses. Please ensure that we do not fill in the Little Houses with the recitations that we perform for our Daily Recitation, or include prayers for ourselves when we are reciting Little Houses.

For Little Houses that are reserved for future use, we do not include any specific prayers, or mention anyone’s name. The energy or merits from the recitation is automatically stored in the Little House when we fill in the circles. At a later stage when we fill in the “Offer To” field, the Little Houses will be received by that merit receiver, which could be our Karmic Creditor, deceased people, etc.

We do not include prayers for ourselves when we recite Little Houses.

If we already know the name of the merit receiver, then it is best to fill in the merit receiver on the Little Houses before we start the recitation. We can say the following prayer, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva help me, <full name> to offer these Little Houses to <merit receiver>”. The merit receiver can be someone’s Karmic Creditor, a deceased person, a child that was aborted or miscarried, or the Karmic Creditor of someone’s house.

For Little Houses that are reserved for future use, we can say the following prayer, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva witness the <name of the sutra or mantra> that I, <full name>, recite for the Little Houses.” The name of the sutra or mantra can be the Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou), Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching), Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra (Wang Sheng Chou), or Sapta Atitabuddha Karasaniya Dharani (Chi Fo Mieh Tsui Chen Yan). It is best not to say anything extra.

It is best to fill in the name of reciter before we start the recitation for Little Houses, regardless of whether the Little Houses are reserved for future use or not. This helps to ensure that the energy or merits are properly stored in the Little Houses. Sometimes when we fill in the circles before we fill in the name of the reciter, other spirits may take the energy or merits from the recitation.

Metaphysics Q&A 153 - REASONS FOR EXPERIENCING LIMITED IMPROVEMENT FROM PRACTICE

Metaphysics Q&A 153 – Reasons for experiencing limited improvement from practice

Q153: Master Lu, I have health issues. For the past 10 months I have been practising Buddhism but my condition has not improved. Why is that?

A153:

First of all, ensure that you are performing the recitations of sutras and mantras exclusively under the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door.  All sutras and mantras are good, but the combination for recitation is very important. Similarly, all medicines can be effective for healing, however, if we consume every kind of medicine then the result would be undesirable. It is better to only follow the prescription given by the doctor you are seeing.
Ensure that the proper amount of Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou), Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching), and Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance are included in your Daily Recitation. The effectiveness would be reduced with an insufficient amount of Great Compassion Mantra or Heart Sutra. If you recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance too many times, then you may activate your negative karmas excessively, hence exacerbating your condition.

For people with severe illnesses, reciting the Great Compassion Mantra at least 21 times per day is required, but 49 times is optimal.

For people with mental illness, reciting the Heart Sutra at least 21 times per day is required. Under normal conditions, it is recommended to recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance 1 to 3 times per day. People with severe illnesses can recite this 3 to 5 times per day. Please ensure that you are not reciting it more than 7 times per day, as you may activate your negative karmas excessively.
While you diligently perform your Daily Recitation, ensure that you are also reciting a sufficient number of Little Houses, which is closely related to the number of Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance that you include for your Daily Recitation. Otherwise, you may experience discomfort or an exacerbation of your condition. Generally, you would need 3 Little Houses for your Karmic Creditor per week if you were reciting the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance 3 times per day. Daily Recitation is similar to your daily expenditure, whereas Little Houses are similar to loan repayments. We all need to mindfully repay our debts.
Ensure that you are performing your recitations appropriately. Are you reciting Little Houses with a sincere and respectful mind? Are you filling in the Little Houses in the right format? Is the name correct? All of the above are important factors for the quality of Little Houses, which determines the resulting effectiveness.
Ensure that you are using the right name. If you have changed your name, please lodge the Application for Name Change first, and then perform recitations using your new name.
The effectiveness is also related to the spiritual power of each individual. With limited spiritual power, the results may not be significant. We can enhance our spiritual power by increasing the amount of recitations for our Daily Recitation.
Your attitude while you perform recitations is also very important. If you harbour doubts, complaints, and unwillingness in your mind, then the quality of your recitations would be affected.
Distracted thoughts and an unfocused mind during recitation would also affect the quality.
In the case where you are performing recitations for others while your own condition is not optimal, you may take responsibility for the karma of the other party. As a result, your recovery may be delayed. Helping others is a virtuous deed, but it is always associated with a cost. We need to evaluate and be aware of our capability when helping others.
For our prayers to be efficacious, we need to accumulate a large amount of virtues. It is recommended that you also sincerely and mindfully perform Life Liberation and make Great Vows.
If none of the above answers your question, then it may simply be because you have not done enough. For a person with severe negative karmas, it would be difficult to have dramatic changes within a short period. As we continue to diligently and persistently practise Buddhism for a period of time, positive results will be achieved.

AVOID BEING JUDGEMENTAL ON FOUR ASPECTS

Master Jun Hong Lu: “I want you to learn that in our Buddhist practice and everyday life, there are 4 things that we should not pass judgement on:

Firstly, do not judge the good or bad of others, as it does not have any effect on your life.

Secondly, do not judge the morality and the conduct of others, as you are not necessarily nobler than them.

Thirdly, do not judge other’s family, as it will affect your equanimity.

Fourthly, do not judge those whom you look down upon, not even those whom you despised the most, as you will become haughty and arrogant; consequently turning you into a disgusting person.”
