(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)
Caller: When one comes across “369” predetermined calamity, the “little black dots” on his/her body will erupt as sudden bad luck, and bad affinities and bad consequences will cause a kind and happy person to suffer from intense pain and misfortunes. Is it true that one is the most vulnerable when karmic obstacles erupt, giving rise to opportunities for evil thoughts to penetrate? One may fall into a trap causing new negative karmic debts; he/she is not only unable to eliminate the karmic debts but keeps multiplying them cyclically, losing in reincarnation finally. If our bodies receive negative karmic retributions, how can we make sure that our minds not to be controlled and manipulated by the evil karmic fruits?
Master Jun Hong Lu: This will depend on your level of cultivation. You will be able to resolve your problems when your cultivation reaches a certain level, for example, a Bodhisattva’s realm. Why is that? Because you have already attained a very spiritual level; You don’t have any unwholesome words and thoughts residing in your mind. You’re perfectly calm and peaceful in mind. In that way, how could any negative karmic consequences befall upon you?
Caller: I understand. When negative karma surfaced, non-Buddhist practitioners will complain and feel resentful. But for practitioners who have cultivated for some years and read Master Lu’s “Buddhism In Plain Terms”, they are more likely to get over such situations - because Master Lu has repeatedly taught us to treat bad situations as imperminment and pay back debts. The debts have been paid off and the karma removed. What we need to do is forget the past and stop creating new karma. This question is raised while I read your book: ‘Buddhism In Plain Terms’.
Thank you. Master Lu.
