ARE WE ALLOWED TO SIT ON OUR HEELS WHILE KNEELING ON THE PRAYING MAT?

Wenda20170101A 00:50
(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

Caller: Master Lu, there are some Buddhist practitioners who sit on their heels while kneeling on the praying mat. Is this alright?

Master Jun Hong Lu: It is alright. No problem at all.

Caller: It is like they rest entirely on the praying mat and their feet are not touching the ground at all, they are entirely on the praying mat.

Master Jun Hong Lu: It is no problem at all for them to sit on their own heels. After you have performed prayer, you may sit on your heels. That’s totally fine.

Caller: Alright.

Master Jun Hong Lu: However, on the first prostration it is best to straighten their back while they are on the praying mat. They may only sit on their heels on the subsequent rounds. Generally, only people who are tired will do this, or those that have issues with their back or their health. Bodhisattva would not mind. Do you understand?

Caller: That’s right. Thank you Master Lu for your compassionate guidance.
